Travel startup ixigo launches AR feature on its app for train passengers

Travel marketplace ixigo recently launched augmented reality feature on its train’s app which helps its iOS users to accurately locate their coach positions. With iPhone 6+ and above smartphones, the Coach Position feature categorizes and labels coaches, thereby identifying how far away the passengers are from their intended coach.

Along with this, ixigo has also launched updates such as Station Alarm and Rescheduled trains. These new features will provide users with live updates and instructions to improve their train travel experience. The Station Alarm feature will alert users as they approach their destination station, ensuring that users can sleep worry free. The Rescheduled trains feature will allow users to easily check if their train is cancelled, diverted or rescheduled.

Earlier, ixigo had launched another interesting feature which predicted PNR status based on machine learning. Talking to ETTech, Rajnish Kumar, CTO & co-founder, ixigo said that this feature renders 90% accuracy. Based on parameters such as boarding, deboarding points among others, the app predicts PNR status og a passenger.

Kumar adds that ixigo will be bringing many such features like running status of a train, platform numbers of trains on real time basis and others. “The challenge that lies here is all trains are not GPS enabled and many of these features rely on crowd sourcing. So, popularizing these features will take time.”
